We are excited to introduce Twitch subscriptions for the LCS Twitch channel, offering fans a new way to engage with and support the LCS ecosystem. By subscribing, you not only enhance your live viewing experience on the platform, but you'll also receive a handful of extra rewards! This month-long test during the LCS playoffs is designed to explore new features that aim to expand the experience of LoL Esports fans.
What Does a Subscription Offer?
Subscribing to the LCS Twitch channel unlocks a range of perks both during and outside of broadcasts while also directly supporting the teams. Here’s what subscribers can look forward to:
During Broadcasts:
No Ads: Enjoy uninterrupted viewing
Custom Emotes and Badges: Use LCS-specific emotes across Twitch and display sub-badges next to your name in chat
Increased Interaction: Get higher priority in fan polls and broadcast recognition on-air
Sub-Only Chat: Engage in moderated chats
Beyond Broadcasts:
In-Game Rewards: Purchased and gifted subs while live will unlock the exclusive “Brain Off” in-game emote, the perfect emote for the LCS! Claim the emote in your Twitch inventory to redeem.
Sub-Only Discord Experience: Access private channels where you can interact with other subs, LCS talent, Commissioner AMAs, provide feedback, and view exclusive content
Enhanced Viewing Options: Vote on Pro View VODs to be posted after each series to the sub-only discord
Why Enable Subscriptions?
This initiative marks the first time the LCS is activating Twitch subscriptions, despite a long history of broadcasting. It introduces features that enhance community engagement and provide fans with new tools to show their support:
Community Building: Subs receive access to emotes and badges that make the chat experience more enjoyable and rewarding, access to exclusive content, private Discord channels to interact with other subs, LCS talent, and more
Better control as a channel: Subs unlock a suite of features otherwise not available to a channel. For example, emote-only mode for moderation is more restrictive than sub-only on well behaved fans. Ad-free viewing, in combination with VODs, allows us to air more content during breaks. Additionally, LCS Twitch emotes can also be used on other channels (unlike with 3rd party options).
Direct Support: Subscribing now influences the prize pool directly, making every subscription impactful to the broader ecosystem
Riot will maintain the standard partner split with Twitch. For this test, we'll increase the LCS Summer Prize Pool matching 100% of the revenue we earn. This straightforward, short-term approach to Twitch subscription revenue will run only during the summer playoffs.
