The MSI 2024 Draw Show for the Play-In Stage will take place during the LPL Spring Finals on April 20, featuring guest Su “Xiye” Hanwei! We have some updates to our MSI Draw format which we hope will lead to more exciting matchups throughout the competition.
Play-In Stage Draw: April 20
The Play-In Stage Draw will determine the brackets for Play-Ins. We will be separating qualified teams into different tiers to help ensure that the draw is as fair as possible and does not result in lopsided brackets. There will be four tiers in the Play-In Stage Draw setup:
Teams will be split into two brackets, each with one team from each tier. Tier 1 teams will be matched up with Tier 4 teams and Tier 2 will be matched up with Tier 3 for the first round of their bracket.
Bracket Stage Draw: May 5
For the Bracket Stage Draw, 8 teams will be separated into four tiers.
Teams from the same tier will be drawn into different sides of the bracket, with Tier 1 teams facing Tier 4 teams, and Tier 2 teams playing against Tier 3 teams. Additionally, this year, each side of the bracket (i.e. top 2 matches / bottom 2 matches) will only be allowed to have one team per region.
When a draw will lead to more than one team from a region to be on the same side of the bracket, the team being drawn will be moved to the opposite side to avoid conflicts with the rule above. For example, if the top side of the bracket has LPL 1 and LEC 1 seeds, and then the LPL 2 seed is drawn, it will be moved to the other side of the bracket to avoid having 2 LPL teams on the same side of the bracket.
Depending on the Play-In results, there are scenarios where there will be only one possible draw result. A draw show will not be conducted under these scenarios, and the Bracket Stage matchups will be announced on May 5, after the Play-In Stage has concluded.
