Riot Games announced today that Mark “MarkZ” Zimmerman has been named the Commissioner of the League Championship Series (LCS) in North America. Zimmerman has been actively involved within the LCS ecosystem for nearly a decade having served as a coach, on-air caster, and analyst.
Zimmerman will oversee the LCS with a focus on creating holistic and outstanding experiences for fans, players, and teams. Zimmerman will report to Carlos Antunes, Head of League of Legends Esports for the Americas, who leads strategic vision and business strategy for the Americas. Together, they will focus on building the vision and operational strategy for the LCS.
“MarkZ brings a truly unique perspective on our league and ecosystem, as he has worn a variety of hats throughout his career,” said Antunes. “We look forward to seeing his passion and deep knowledge of the LCS shine through his new role as our Commissioner.”
“For almost a decade, I have devoted my career to the LCS, and it is with immense honor that I undertake the responsibility of representing the fans, players, teams, and partners in my new position as the Commissioner of the LCS,” said Zimmerman. “As I step into this new role, I am committed to exploring new and innovative ways to create the best viewing experiences for fans, and inspire our community so that our sport can be celebrated for generations to come.”
Fueled by his love of games, Zimmerman graduated from the Rochester Institute of Technology with a Bachelor in Game Design & Development. He began his esports career as analyst and coach for Curse and Team Liquid, then transitioned to his role as an on-air caster and analyst for the LCS in 2016.
