Introducing the 2020 Mid-Season Cup: An LCK vs. LPL Showdown

Beginning Thursday, May 28, the top four teams from the LPL (China) Spring Split will line up against the best four from the LCK (South Korea) Spring Split in a special League of Legends Mid-Season Cup. In this star-studded showcase of League of Legends talent, the best teams from each league’s 2020 Spring Splits will face off in a series of epic matches to see which team is truly the greatest!

The Mid-Season Cup, along with additional soon-to-be-revealed events, will be broadcast live on watch.lolesports.com. The four teams representing the LPL will be JD Gaming (LPL 2020 Spring Split Champions), Top Esports, FunPlus Phoenix and Invictus Gaming. The LCK lineup will include T1 (LCK 2020 Spring Split Champions), Gen. G, DragonX, and DAMWON Gaming. While the LCK has earned seven international global event titles (League of Legends World Championship from 2013-2017; Mid-Season Invitationals 2016, 2017), the LPL has dominated the most recent global events, taking home Worlds in 2018 and 2019 in addition to their 2015 and 2018 MSI titles. The competition will be held online with LCK teams competing from LoL Park in Seoul and LPL teams from the Shanghai LPL Arena. The Mid-Season Cup will adhere to the local health regulations of both cities and will feature no live audiences. Additionally, in order to ensure the integrity of the competition, Riot Games will artificially standardize the ping level to 30-40m/s through the use of third party tools. While the current environment has made it difficult to host international events, the close proximity of the LCK and LPL allow for the opportunity to create a meaningful inter-league competition that fans all over the world are eager to see. The matches comprise the first of multiple events that will be held in May to replace the 2020 Mid-Season Invitational. Additional details on other new events happening in the Mid-Season Invitational window will be announced in the weeks ahead.
