Historically, the League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational would have a variety of implications on the seeding at the World Championship including which regions’ top seed would be in Pool 1 and which single seed region would receive an additional event seed. To account for the absence of MSI, as well as the merger between the LMS and the LST, for this year, we will implement several changes to the quantity of teams each region will field at the World Championship.
Both the LPL (China) and LEC (Europe) will qualify four teams for the World Championship, as they are currently ranked first and second based on their performance in international competitions over the past two years.
Additionally, we’ll be allocating the VCS (Vietnam) a second seed to the event, as of the leagues who receive a single seed for the World Championship, they have had the strongest performance in international competition. The VCS has received this additional seed for the past two years due to their performances at previous Mid-Season Invitationals.
The 2020 World Championship will see the following regional seed distribution:
- LPL (China), LEC (Europe): 4 Teams each
- LCK (Korea), LCS (North America): 3 Teams each
- PCS (Southeast Asia), VCS (Vietnam): 2 Teams each
- CBLOL (Brazil), TCL (Turkey), LJL (Japan), LLA (Latin America), OPL (Oceania), LCL (Commonwealth of Independent States) : 1 Team each
Additional information about the 2020 World Championship, including pool placements for all seeds, will be shared closer to the event.
